Prunus lusitanica "angustifolia ", in het nederlands portugese laurier genoemd is een middelgrote wintergroene sierstruik met een compacte dichtvertakte, opgaande vorm. Deze variëteit groeit compacter en heeft een kleiner blad dan de gewone lusitanica. Hij bloeit in mei en juni met kleine witte, geurende bloempjes in tot 15cm grote trossen en heeft smalle, glanzende, ovale, donkergroene bladeren. Hij prefereert een standplaats in de halfschaduw of zon, doet het goed in vrijwel iedere grondsoort, is redelijk winterhard en produceert in de herfst niet eetbare vruchtjes. Prunus lusitanica "angustifolia" is bijzonder populair als wintergroene haag en lokt vlinders en bijen.
