Buxus sempervirens, is an evergreen shrub or tree with a bushy upright shape, ideal for topiary. The leaves are glossy, smooth-edged and dark green. The shrub flowers from April to June with small inconspicuous yellow-green male and female flowers (monoecious). Buxus sempervirens likes a position in full sun or partial shade and a well-drained soil type, the plant prefers a calcareous soil.
